Bao-Longtao thought to himself as he strode down Bell-Tower Street in the cold breezes and glanced at the indifferent residents drinking in taverns around the corners of the street.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Bao-Longtao, Deputy Chief of the Riverwest State Second District Police Department, was also one of the Eastwood Boulders. His face was always as stern as a boulder. For the gang members haunting the Bell-Tower Street neighborhood, this face represented immense awe and terror. Whenever he patrolled Bell-Tower Street, those black-market wild-buffalo-meat peddlers would scatter at the speed of a galaxy battleship. With his sharp-looking black police uniform and the seven subordinates following behind him, they always made an extraordinary scene.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Bao-Longtao suddenly remembered that there were also three reporters by his side today. Feeling a jolt in his heart, he tightened his collar button out of habit and then turned around steadily to face the reporter, a young woman holding a microphone in her hand. A forced smile slowly spread across his face as if the exterior of a boulder had suddenly split open.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">"Public safety at Bell-Tower Street has always been outstanding …," Bao-Longtao said in a calm voice to the best of his abilities. He didn't want to leave the slightest impression of carelessness. This assignment had come straight from the Riverwest State Governor's Office. Something Deputy Chief Bao dared not to handle hastily.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Sensing the Deputy Chief's uneasiness, several aides from the police station's public relations office quickly took over and carried on the conversation with the reporters. However, he knew he wouldn't stand another seven years at a place filled with deathly staleness. Would he eventually resort to watching TV to kill time every day, just like those jobless miners?</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The Federation had stringent regulations. Although promotions usually came quicker at the Eastwood Grand District compared to other places, transferring to the Capital Star Circle or the Westwood Grand District was only possible after a lengthy time of service. Bao-Longtao did make acquaintances with a few outer circle members of the Eminent Families. Still, he knew all too well that none of those cautious Families would spare any effort on him, an insignificant Deputy Chief.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">A better option for him would be to spend more effort on political achievements for his post. That was also part of his consideration when he decided to show these reporters around Bell-Tower Street personally.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">……</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">……</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The tiny trace of frustration on Deputy Chief Bao's face didn't last long and quickly turned into astonishment!</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Even the curious questions from the female reporter skipped his ears. His face was now purple and all tensed up. It looked like a boulder at the bottom of the river covered by decades of moss, ready to transform into a terrifying monster at a moment's call.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Glancing over the direction of Bao-Longtao's gaze, the reporters couldn't help but gasp, and the female reporter even uttered a cry.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Only a moment ago, a cool breeze still swept along the peaceful street. But in the next moment, the sounds of countless footsteps suddenly resonated in the streets. The steps were not in sync, nor were they as intense as drumbeats, but the sounds were so dense that anyone could tell it had to be from a large crowd marching out.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The noisemakers emerged at Bell-Tower Street in no time. Mobs of people stormed out from the four alleys all at once and quickly occupied the majority of the intersection and sidewalks. The entrance was so dramatic that those Eastwood residents occupying themselves with coffee and alcohol looked out of the window in shock. And the faces of the police officers and the reporters all turned pale.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The mob streaming out of the four alleys consisted of only young boys. Even the oldest amongst them were merely 15 or 16 years of age. Some of the younger ones still had blemishes of mud on their faces, making it hard to tell whether they were over ten or not.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The boys wore various clothes but with one particular trait in common, disturbingly. Each one wore something black: black jackets, black sweaters, or black t-shirts. One boy probably failed to find a black piece of clothing from home. Instead, he wore a blue miner's work coat covered by black tar from mining, which probably had not been washed for years.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">There were over one hundred boys, all in black, funny-looking yet oppressing. They came out of nowhere, walked to the middle of Bell-Tower Street, right in front of Deputy Chief Bao and the reporters.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Deputy Chief Bao took a step forward and stared furiously at the boy in the very front of the group. But this time, all the boys only responded with disdain. No one reacted to his demand.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.3800027272727273; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The leader of the boys had maturity exceeding his age. Illuminated by sunlight shining through sprinkling space dust, the blue oceans, the large patches of green wildernesses, and the numerous strikingly pale mine craters all radiated with a dim aesthetic splendor. The view looked just like a beautiful painting, only that it had been set aside for many years, covered in the dust of time.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">However, for the Eastwood Grand District's many residents and orphans, this was only a planet full of boulders, nothing but boulders. In their once determined but now apathetic eyes, even those patches of green plains were only grass layers that covered up the true wealth and the glorious history of the planet. They had grown accustomed to seeing right through the green grass and looking straight at the mineral veins beneath, something longed for by every Eastwood resident.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">According to the federal district zoning, Eastwood was a Level-Two Grand District, with the same prestige as the three dazzling planets in the Capital Star Circle and the Westwood Grand District. However, for many citizens of the Federation, the far-away Eastwood was a forgotten land. Only on rare occasions, such as the 600th anniversary of the Founding of the Federation Government, the name Eastwood might still show up in celebration ceremonies. Most of the time, Eastwood had ceased to exist in the minds of the people who lived in affluent civilizations.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The Eastwood Grand District included only one planet, the Eastwood Planet. It might sound a bit silly, but it signified that Eastwood Grand District's name came from the Eastwood Planet. This lonely planet, which hung along the outermost region of the Triangle Galaxy, once held vital significance for the entire human civilization in the ancient past.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Nevertheless, ever since the various kinds of ores had been completely depleted, the Eastwood Planet gradually turned into a deserted planet. Now it only has boulders, no more ores, just worthless boulders.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">……</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">……</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Those with means to escape Eastwood had left a long time ago. They successfully acquired their residence transfer approval through either specialized skill sets, wealth accumulated over the years, or sponsorship from relatives living in the Capital Star Circle or the Westwood Grand District. Boarding the departing flights, which became lesser and lesser frequent due to energy shortage, they abandoned this withering planet, never looking back.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">After all, only a trivial percentage of the residents were able to obtain the residence transfer approvals. The partly abandoned planet still had to support the lives of many. In a well-developed civilization, food and shelter were no longer problems people need to have a concern. Residents of Eastwood Planet still lived a peaceful life. The many social infrastructures and welfares stayed their vital roles just as before, and monetary currencies remained in steady circulation. This world still had corporations, airports, food processing factories, Mech maintenance stations, supercomputer networks, and even an armory.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">What they could have and what they should have, the Eastwood Grand District had them all. Yet, they failed to conceal that dim feel of lifelessness. Staleness kept seeping out from every street corner, every building, and every face of those who had nothing to do other than holding their coffee cups and planting themselves in front of a television.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The thousands of years of ore production provided continued support to the Federation, like how a large river kept nourishing the lands along the riverbanks. But when the river gradually dried out and eventually turned into a small foul-smelling creek, the support coming back from the Federation was distinctly insufficient – because, for humankind, happiness is more than merely staying alive.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The long history taught the Eastwooders to be hardworking, steadfast, and unyielding. Countless mining accidents throughout the past did not make them cringe a bit. The dull present, however, filled them with sorrow and helplessness. There was no more mine to dig. There was nothing to do. Without even the possibility of a mining accident, a boring life was not the kind of life an Eastwooder would desire.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Hardworking and unyielding Eastwooders earned themselves the nickname "Eastwood Boulders" in the Federation. Today's Eastwooders became boulders even quieter and more indifferent, turning themselves into stone statues in armchairs and couches at home, as though they would never move again.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">……</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">……</span></p><br /></span></div><div><table><tbody><tr><td align="left" width="200"><b><a href="https://lannyland.blogspot.com/2019/08/the-outcast-27-glasses-of-wine.html">Previous Chapter</a></b></td><td align="right" width="200"><b><a href="https://lannyland.blogspot.com/2019/08/the-outcast-volume-1-chapter-1-2.html">Next Chapter</a><br /></b></td></tr></tbody></table></div>

<i><b><br /></b></i>
<i><b>The Outcast</b></i> is a book written by Maoni, a renowned author in China. Many of his works are well received by readers have been adapted to TV series. Out of all the books he wrote, <i>The Outcast</i> is undoubtedly my favorite one. In fact, I liked it so much that I named my house after one of the characters in the book. 😄<br />
<br />The Outcast was named first place in the <i><b>20 Top Internet Novels in the Last 20 Years</b></i> by the China Writers Association (the most authoritative body of writers in China).<br />
<i><b><br /></b></i>
I have never met Maoni in person. We only communicated in writings from time to time. Maybe because we were born in the same era in China (we were referred to as the 70s generation), we share many common backgrounds and interests. That made it easier for me to pick out the many hidden gems (references) in his writing.<br />

Maoni has very kindly authorized me to translate his book The Outcast to English and post them on my blog and my website. This is a Dang Long book with TOO many chapters. But it is also a Dang Good story. I dream that one day I can finish and publish this translation, so the story can compete for the <b><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nebula_Award" target="_blank">Nebula Awards</a></b> and the <b><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Award" target="_blank">Hugo Awards</a></b>. Maybe the book can even be considered for a film adaptation and one day be put on the big screens to reach even more audiences.<br />
<br />
I am getting up at 5:30 am every day to dedicate time to my translation (of this book and also the Smiling Proud Wanderer book). In the distant past, I had translated a few chapters of the book. Now equipped with better tools and stronger dedication, I hope to go much further much longer.<br />
<br />
I will be posting the latest translation drafts on this blog first:<br />
<b>Address:</b> <a href="http://lanny.lannyland.com/">http://lanny.lannyland.com</a> or <a href="http://blog.lannyland.com/">http://blog.lannyland.com</a><br />
<b>Label:</b> <a href="http://lannyland.blogspot.com/search/label/The%20Outcast" target="_blank">The Outcast</a><br />
<br />
After further editing, I will also post the finished translation on my website:<br />
<b>Address:</b> <a href="http://www.lannyland.com/translations.shtml">http://www.lannyland.com/translations.shtml</a><br />
<br />
Enough said. Now check out the teaser remarks the author wrote for each volume of the book.<br />

Just open a <b>Command Prompt</b> (click Start Icon and then type <b><span style="font-family: courier;">CMD</span></b>), and then type: <br />
<span style="font-family: courier;"><b>shutdown -r -f -t 0 </b></span><br />
<b><span style="font-family: courier;">-r</span></b> means reboot, <b><span style="font-family: courier;">-f</span></b> means forcing apps to quit, and <span style="font-family: courier;">-t 0</span> means do it right now! Just hit Enter to reboot!</blockquote><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhonz2uKPIMQwuVxFP76r8WDDNsWm-oFrENACTVhL3IBe6y41Rz7KNd-IKhWWuY-Z3GWLhp5sCHf-qO5t52HRVqkJnA_hZXdEsgTHbJE4R9vt50HdtTpyfUWAcp1YtylhRIUaT4eA/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="452" data-original-width="674" height="430" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhonz2uKPIMQwuVxFP76r8WDDNsWm-oFrENACTVhL3IBe6y41Rz7KNd-IKhWWuY-Z3GWLhp5sCHf-qO5t52HRVqkJnA_hZXdEsgTHbJE4R9vt50HdtTpyfUWAcp1YtylhRIUaT4eA/w640-h430/Screen+Shot+2021-04-08+at+9.46.01+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /> The shutdown command is built in with your Windows Operating System. This time, it was my <b>Pandora station not playing after Firefox updates</b>.</p><p>You see, I live inside this giant robot called Philip. And Philip is also my sweet smart home assistant. In the morning, Philip would turn on music throughout my home, and gradually increase volume from low to medium to wake us up with beautiful and relaxing and free music on Pandora.</p><p>Then, one day, Philip just stopped doing that.</p><p>When I finally had a chance to investigate, I found the problem:</p><p>Philip uses Firefox to play Pandora in the morning. In the past, when opening Pandora on Firefox, it would just automatically start playing. But now, when I go to Pandora website, I have to manually click the play button to start the music.</p><p>So why was it working and not stopped working? Because I updated Firefox. And with a new Firefox, it automatically blocks music or video from playing on all websites. What you have to do is to explicitly enable autoplay on each website as shown below.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl8ZY4-5A80OmIAhKPYbh5pdgpullKiDytN6boydgsdif_3m3_csjTCwFffnThylFwPNaYT5Q8sUPaYic16pi-gx6BaubYrUSGqwrVr1tqpWRUO7IDgXLydpk4V5seVEoG8stHkw/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="1140" data-original-width="1712" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl8ZY4-5A80OmIAhKPYbh5pdgpullKiDytN6boydgsdif_3m3_csjTCwFffnThylFwPNaYT5Q8sUPaYic16pi-gx6BaubYrUSGqwrVr1tqpWRUO7IDgXLydpk4V5seVEoG8stHkw/w640-h426/Screen+Shot+2021-03-15+at+7.57.36+AM.png" width="640" /></a></div>Click the lock icon on the left side of the address bar will show a popup menu where you can enable autoplay again. You can also go into the Firefox Preferences page to manage websites where you want to allow or deny autoplay.<p></p><p>To go to Firefox Preferences page, simply type <span style="font-family: courier;">about:preferences</span> in the address bar and hit enter. Then just search for <b>Autoplay</b>.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKSE3OBF39fgZY6F8b2A9y4SyPf-aZUCfLXsMWzy2xT5nBl8jwXckO-8XdLGgl82zftSlDjRd7QYgibFApmkW_DhyphenhyphenNwqY7IzQWBznL_EgFWBj48xoemj3fsOpJT2qOg4LXSZlYNg/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="1140" data-original-width="1712" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKSE3OBF39fgZY6F8b2A9y4SyPf-aZUCfLXsMWzy2xT5nBl8jwXckO-8XdLGgl82zftSlDjRd7QYgibFApmkW_DhyphenhyphenNwqY7IzQWBznL_EgFWBj48xoemj3fsOpJT2qOg4LXSZlYNg/w640-h426/Screen+Shot+2021-03-15+at+7.58.19+AM.png" width="640" /></a></div><p></p>Well, after this tweak, (and after I fixed the stupid <a href="https://lannyland.blogspot.com/2019/07/daily-battles-volume-control-stops.html" target="_blank">Bluetooth volume control problem in Windows 10</a> since stupid Microsoft updated my computer <b>AGAIN</b> and then changed the registry setting,) I finally can enjoy Philip's morning natural music wake up ceremony again, and I can finally find some peace again during a pandemic.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5;"><p>Hope this is useful for someone else running into the same problem. Especially after your Mac goes to sleep, and then upon wake up, it no longer detects your external monitor(s) that was working just fine before?</p><p>Maybe you see something like this:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh67eQTnl1TQfL_LOhvWg5rrBMfESKJp0t0D9zJjVI9kKt48PZAA0Y5Ct7z4I9yCS3z8ADOnf1oeQZ9bpe0khWaLPlLScFIhEufk-sV6BDiPrgWHaE2LaQatLxqR4X_4p4yyC_-kA/s2048/Monitor.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh67eQTnl1TQfL_LOhvWg5rrBMfESKJp0t0D9zJjVI9kKt48PZAA0Y5Ct7z4I9yCS3z8ADOnf1oeQZ9bpe0khWaLPlLScFIhEufk-sV6BDiPrgWHaE2LaQatLxqR4X_4p4yyC_-kA/w640-h480/Monitor.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>Turned out this is a bug macOS Big Sur introduced by update 11.1, and the recent 11.2 as shown in this article: <a href="https://www.macrumors.com/2021/02/03/macos-big-sur-external-display-issues/" target="_blank">https://www.macrumors.com/2021/02/03/macos-big-sur-external-display-issues/</a> Basically your Mac failed to wake up the monitor after the monitor also went to sleep.</p><p>In my case, the Mac laptop always successfully detects 2 external monitors, but always fails to detect the 3rd external monitor. <b>Very Annoying Indeed!!</b></p><p>So how do you solve this problem? Here are several things you can try:</p><p><b><span style="font-size: large;">Solutions:</span></b></p><p></p><ol style="text-align: left;"><li>Turn your monitor off and then back on.</li><li>Unplug your external monitor (HDMI plugged into a USB-C adapter) from the Mac laptop and then plug it back in.</li><li>Use the key combination <b>⌘-F2</b> or <b>⌘-fn-F2</b> to force monitor detection.</li><li>Go to <b>System Preferences</b>, <b>select Display</b>, and then hold the <b>OPTION</b> key down. The <b>Gather Windows</b> button will change into <b>Detect Displays</b>. This could be your chat messages (phone messages, Google Hangout messages, Microsoft Team Chats, Zoom Chats), emails (Gmail or Outlook), social media (Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, you name it), or your Slack for work.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuAgxCFrWKBIy7KL1mwgeuwdEPBHH1DKvDiAZ48vCD6kraycbMwKGqHvAEq5HOFLsUIkmchCYsYOXmtEfEcTTpTAYtiR0QAFXT6PBVSoQQvZxT0qXzxkU1pNiAU3PPtUmCCM9uuQ/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="379" data-original-width="670" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuAgxCFrWKBIy7KL1mwgeuwdEPBHH1DKvDiAZ48vCD6kraycbMwKGqHvAEq5HOFLsUIkmchCYsYOXmtEfEcTTpTAYtiR0QAFXT6PBVSoQQvZxT0qXzxkU1pNiAU3PPtUmCCM9uuQ/w400-h226/image.png" width="400" /></a></div><br />Slack has become this tool required almost for every office job out there today. People expect you to see it quickly and respond quickly. You expect yourself to be on top of your Slack messages because it might be new information you don't want to miss or new issues that require your immediate attention. So when you have read all your messages, but the Slack app is still showing that you have unread messages, it becomes a super big nuisance and just annoys the heck out of you.<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiJr0fmY1BTOd0bfK93sgjVimJcDbgMmqF1q4AE0lJFTZIoHLgdIiTIz94ihgusyZC6mo9EMXEWGIXTFwv4NBtgD9dI7-sGmvtxiuSLgsQEoImVixHrz5tOMfsBx2azM70R7yXCQ/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="123" data-original-width="700" height="112" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiJr0fmY1BTOd0bfK93sgjVimJcDbgMmqF1q4AE0lJFTZIoHLgdIiTIz94ihgusyZC6mo9EMXEWGIXTFwv4NBtgD9dI7-sGmvtxiuSLgsQEoImVixHrz5tOMfsBx2azM70R7yXCQ/w640-h112/image.png" width="640" /></a></div><br />Especially after you have clicked the All Unread menu and was issued that you have read all your slack messages! My solution is to have a folder I designate to screen captures. And here's how you can change your default screen capture folder on a Mac so all screen capture files will automatically be saved to that folder.</p><p>Normally to capture a portion of your screen, you use the key combination of <b>Command + Shift + 3</b>. and then select the region you want to capture. To capture the entire screen (or screens when you have multiple monitors), you use the key combination of <b>Command + Shift + 4</b>.</p><p>So the trick to change the default screen capture saving folder is the key combination of <b>Command + Shift + 5</b>. You'll get a toolbar like the one shown below. Then you just click <b>Options</b> and then select <b>Other Location</b> from the popup menu.</p><p style="text-align: center;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNGz84LRduPrwTOFMHdPDXlK8lrFkKHUzLrHeDu9Aor-YSctyw9sqjhQaB3tHz2khdA7ipBsY9Kl4BZJLEBE7lsZTunQ4_e6NUZBaFAATPvDTK7h9IcCGcUaWHYNISThHIlZVSlg/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="332" data-original-width="400" height="333" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNGz84LRduPrwTOFMHdPDXlK8lrFkKHUzLrHeDu9Aor-YSctyw9sqjhQaB3tHz2khdA7ipBsY9Kl4BZJLEBE7lsZTunQ4_e6NUZBaFAATPvDTK7h9IcCGcUaWHYNISThHIlZVSlg/w400-h333/image.png" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p>Hope you find this helpful in managing your cluttered computer desktop.</p><p>Leave a comment if you find my blogs useful. The most popular brand of water filter system is the Brita brand such as the one shown below (about $16.99 on Amazon). They sell both the pitcher and water filters. </p>
<div align="center"><a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015SY3WKM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B015SY3WKM&linkCode=as2&tag=lannyland-20&linkId=6fdca3259147e65bdc96749d5634eea4" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="//ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&MarketPlace=US&ASIN=B015SY3WKM&ServiceVersion=20070822&ID=AsinImage&WS=1&Format=_SL250_&tag=lannyland-20" /></a></div>
<p>However, how often should you change the water filter, so the filter is not dirty, water still tastes good, and you can also feel assured that you are still consuming really filtered water?</p><p>The pitcher itself has a button and light indicators of when you should change the filter. However, it is a very confusing design and you would likely find yourself not knowing how they work. Pushing the button makes all the lights flash and you also don't want to accidentally reset the detector.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015SY3WKM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=lannyland-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B015SY3WKM&linkId=477c9b8964189f1ef1fcac183a191bcf" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1211" data-original-width="842" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS9lQRR4TEtuhG3qUu2INBZ09B0OTml9cMudMQuP_o0OSkA692U-dFLGkcsjEmlErqbYJHqF-ZaeViI1H7zMeFKXTWp20F3sa6mxy0HZWLi4ZUYJ_BduuRsC1h6X3XFjWnzHFNxg/s320/Screen+Shot+2021-02-21+at+12.55.51+PM.png" /></a></div><p><br /></p>Even on Brita's website, there are confusing instructions. For some models, you are supposed to push the button for 2 seconds. This picture above shows 5 seconds. Some others say hold the button for 8 seconds.<h2><b><span style="font-size: large;">So here's your solution:</span></b></h2><blockquote class="tr_bq"><b>After you change your filter, push and hold the reset button for 8 seconds doesn't matter what the instructions says and whichever model of pitcher you are using!</b></blockquote><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii7q-WQoH1l9lRtzN7jEGy87M3FGILpoe1jf6uIiUynt8lvKhPS45mpoEZWoVgGqFY3Wk7GEVuvaFl5UJ2COSVLDcQOEoJU7JjirUeS8bT-EUa0whUad13Qt-ovciTJ41u9z3AEg/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="341" data-original-width="400" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii7q-WQoH1l9lRtzN7jEGy87M3FGILpoe1jf6uIiUynt8lvKhPS45mpoEZWoVgGqFY3Wk7GEVuvaFl5UJ2COSVLDcQOEoJU7JjirUeS8bT-EUa0whUad13Qt-ovciTJ41u9z3AEg/" width="282" /></a></div></div></div>So how do you know when it is time to change the filter? Have you ever wondered how that was done?</p><p>Here's an example of me doing it:</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">So disappointed to not see any Martians.<a href="https://t.co/9QFmjduTGs">pic.twitter.com/9QFmjduTGs</a></p>— Lanny Lin😷🧢 (@lannyland) <a href="https://twitter.com/lannyland/status/1362863201243652096?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 19, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>
<p>You could try to download the clip (there are lots of online tools available for you to do that), and then re-upload it. But that takes a lot of effort/bandwidth, and you also can't link the original poster's name below the clip. That's just not the right way to do it.</p><p>It's actually really easy to do that on a computer (which I use most, cause I hate looking at my tiny phone screens and get my eyes all tired). All you have to do is to first copy the original tweet's URL, e.g.,</p><p><span> </span><span> </span><span style="font-family: courier;">https://twitter.com/lannyland/status/1362863201243652096</span></p><p>And then just add /video/1 to the end, and now the link becomes:</p><p><span> </span><span> </span><span style="font-family: courier;">https://twitter.com/lannyland/status/1362863201243652096/video/1</span></p><p>Include that in your own tweet, and you'll be able to successfully embed the clip while still giving the original poster the credit. </p><div>I normally simply retweet someone's funny videos. But if I really want to hide the original poster's caption and use my own, I use this method. Big-name Tweeters such as Rex Chapman do this a lot. Here's an example:</div><div><br /></div><div>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Dad of the Year... <a href="https://t.co/SddyAPDxuX">pic.twitter.com/SddyAPDxuX</a></p>— Rex Chapman🏇🏼 (@RexChapman) <a href="https://twitter.com/RexChapman/status/1362833273660055555?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 19, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>
</div><p><br /></p><p>So there you go, it's that easy to embed a video. Happy tweeting!</p><div style="line-height: 1.5;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 1.5;"><div style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: center;"><b style="background-color: #f3f3f3;"><br /></b></div><div style="background-color: #e0e0e0; color: #333333; font-family: verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.lannyland.com/" style="background-color: transparent;" target="_blank"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://www.lannyland.com/blog/totd1.gif" style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt;" /></a></div></div><br /><b style="font-family: "helvetica neue", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></b><b style="font-family: "helvetica neue", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></b><b style="font-family: "helvetica neue", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></b><b style="font-family: "helvetica neue", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><span style="font-family: times; font-size: small;">Reusability is the foundation of computer programming.</span></b> <b style="font-family: "helvetica neue", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></b><b style="font-family: "helvetica neue", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></b><b style="font-family: "helvetica neue", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></b><b style="font-family: "helvetica neue", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></b><b style="font-family: "helvetica neue", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></b><b style="font-family: "helvetica neue", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></b><b style="font-family: "helvetica neue", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></b><b style="font-family: "helvetica neue", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></b><b style="font-family: "helvetica neue", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">BTW: The easiest way to remember my blog address is <span style="color: #2b00fe;">blog.lannyland.com</span></b></div>Lanny Linhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14231724109020671147noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19995797.post-37461600212890797812021-01-09T21:54:00.033-07:002021-02-14T22:05:36.961-07:00Daily Battles: How To Play Different MP3 Songs In Similar Volumes<div style="line-height: 1.5;">When you play multiple MP3 songs on your computer, especially the ones <a href="https://lannyland.blogspot.com/2021/01/daily-battles-how-to-download-all.html" target="_blank">you have downloaded off the Internet</a>, it is possible that each song has its own volume. That makes Internet bandwidth a very hot commodity.</p><p>Just to make matters worse, ISPs like Comcast/Xfinity started charging extras if you go over the data cap on your home Internet data usage. I have just recently found out that I almost breached the data cap last month.</p><p>I used to listen to music on YouTube while doing stuff. I even have this huge YouTube playlist called <b><a href="https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlOIZiTPNFTGTMc1wF4VoPx5pPNwuzWsm" target="_blank">Lanny's List of Just Nice Songs</a></b>. Guess the streaming actually used up quite some bandwidth, so family members were complaining about slow Internet speed, and Xfinity is warning me about data usage.</p><p>Anyway, so how do we resolve this problem? I decided to just download all the songs on my huge playlist to my computer as MP3 files. This way I can still listen to them (I don't really need to watch the videos that go with them), I won't be using up a lot of bandwidth to download them (since Mp3 files only), and when I listen to them, I won't be using any of the valuable family Internet bandwidth.</p><p>Then I realized that there is actually no easy way for me to download all the songs in my big playlist. I choose to not install any local programs and only go with free online tools. So eventually I figured out a solution.</p><p>There's a website called <a href="https://ddownr.co" style="font-weight: bold;" target="_blank">ddownr</a> that will let you download multiple YouTube videos on a playlist in a batch. Here's how the interface looks like:</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrTD7Qk-O209sY1gcgalmaHUeglMui2fK7lVAuhtScK5Gec-z9vlnBkY7wdUFa37yQ3wefKNMfSvbNgunbFHs6TQ0Pyok71otaUOi61dU0gWoW6d-ljy4W9wBaDTPMB3TkS8qR7g/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="655" data-original-width="1136" height="370" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrTD7Qk-O209sY1gcgalmaHUeglMui2fK7lVAuhtScK5Gec-z9vlnBkY7wdUFa37yQ3wefKNMfSvbNgunbFHs6TQ0Pyok71otaUOi61dU0gWoW6d-ljy4W9wBaDTPMB3TkS8qR7g/w640-h370/Screen+Shot+2021-02-14+at+6.14.58+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div><br />Of course, you can also download video clips from a playlist if that's your desire. For me, I only needed the music MP3s.<p></p><p>If you happen to have a lot of copyrighted material in the playlist, then you will have to use a different web site (linked from the ddownr website. But you can also just go straight to the web site: <b><a href="https://loader.to/">loader.to</a></b>. One caveat is that you can only download 21 clips/MP3s in your playlist at a time. But it still beats downloading 392 songs manually one at a time. Here's how the interface looks like:</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_kJakFRpgA5mE2UbNd0QXYToQmsRaeLATZP0T_6zIBk47p9fWYX9JQocNvZrwD7hj-ltpdC86WYJZiuUPXe4zDtvO1ifdtC12JlMQiMAKMRk_kvfmPJLC3LLg5CoCmczl8yPTfA/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="1001" data-original-width="904" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_kJakFRpgA5mE2UbNd0QXYToQmsRaeLATZP0T_6zIBk47p9fWYX9JQocNvZrwD7hj-ltpdC86WYJZiuUPXe4zDtvO1ifdtC12JlMQiMAKMRk_kvfmPJLC3LLg5CoCmczl8yPTfA/w579-h640/Screen+Shot+2021-02-14+at+6.20.25+PM.png" width="579" /></a></div><br />Note that occasionally the tool fails to download a song from the playlist (sometimes the video is still showing in the playlist, but when you go to it, the video is not available anymore). In this case, you can just find another copy and then use the same interface to download just one video/MP3. You can also use a different website if you just want to download one clip/Mp3: <a href="https://yt1s.com/"><b>yt1s.com</b></a>. But I would still recommend the <b><a href="https://loader.to/">loader.to</a> </b>tool, because it does a better job storing thumbnail and artist metadata into the Mp3 file.<p></p><p>In a separate blog post, I described how you can save a YouTube playlist to a text file. You can check it out if that's something you are interested in doing.</p><p><b><a href="https://lannyland.blogspot.com/2021/01/daily-battles-how-to-keep-track-of.html" target="_blank">Daily Battles: How To Keep Track Of Videos in a YouTube Playlist In Case Videos Are Deleted</a></b></p><p><br /></p><p>Hope you find this blog useful in saving your bandwidth!</p><p>Leave a comment if you find my blogs useful. The worst part is that you don't remember what video you put in there, so you can't just find another copy to replace it!!</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEichUhF8QN1aLpToUaX45SuUVBcWiPHmJd_I5QOtvDuUPzlGdl3VQ55oP1BfxHAh_RCWIWGPRfEthozG7oIAemTyjD4BDcVlwKYfAR4G5uPjGesUpq96bN0g5np9xnKWUH1Cbwk4Q/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="950" data-original-width="1241" height="490" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEichUhF8QN1aLpToUaX45SuUVBcWiPHmJd_I5QOtvDuUPzlGdl3VQ55oP1BfxHAh_RCWIWGPRfEthozG7oIAemTyjD4BDcVlwKYfAR4G5uPjGesUpq96bN0g5np9xnKWUH1Cbwk4Q/w640-h490/Screen+Shot+2021-02-14+at+2.15.21+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><br /><div>So next time after you have put in all the hard work for a playlist (like this one, for example, <a href="https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlOIZiTPNFTGTMc1wF4VoPx5pPNwuzWsm" target="_blank">Lanny's List of Just Nice Songs</a>), make sure to back up the names so you can always go back to find out which video on your list has disappeared.</div><div><br /></div><div>So how do you back up the list easily? For example, as a text file?</div><div><br /></div><div>What I found very useful is this free online tool at <a href="http://TuneMyMusic.com" target="_blank">TuneMyMusic.com</a>. The instructions on the screens are super intuitive:</div><div><br /></div><div>1. You select <b>YouTube</b> as the source (you can also do this for other popular sites like Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, or Amazon Music).</div><div>2. Next, you put in the link of your playlist and click <b>Load playlist</b>.</div><div>3. On the next screen, you can leave everything selected, or only select the videos you are interested in saving. Then click <b>Select Destination</b>.</div><div>4. Now, just select <b>Export to file</b>. You have the option to select <b>TXT</b> or <b>CSV</b> as the output format. I personally prefer <b>CSV</b> (Comma Separated Values) format, because you can open it from any spreadsheet or database program, and then it's really easy to sort.</div><div>5. At the last screen, just click STart Moving My Music and then specify where you want to store the text file on your computer.</div><div><br /></div><div>As you probably already figured out, you can use this same free tool to move a playlist from one music source (e.g., Amazon Music) to your favorite music platform (e.g., Spotify).</div><div><br /></div><div>Here are the screenshots of all the steps in case you need it.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2jFw4YpCe4SrAQMo1zU6YE5wsGSz6feMeCPdPKAYklNVOyVT0PAHQPaQLJmN-c9OqfkiECNDjgNE7D63t6YtocdXFwl5UEsQUDAne4KYGhCrGTFPM9dzF8J4kNJgxaQEZ7K3T4Q/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="985" data-original-width="1834" height="344" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2jFw4YpCe4SrAQMo1zU6YE5wsGSz6feMeCPdPKAYklNVOyVT0PAHQPaQLJmN-c9OqfkiECNDjgNE7D63t6YtocdXFwl5UEsQUDAne4KYGhCrGTFPM9dzF8J4kNJgxaQEZ7K3T4Q/w640-h344/Screen+Shot+2021-02-14+at+2.37.41+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggPxbsnjNuNj3NEzZV7LRGDYA4aWLP5wYv4Gsq9NWew5uL6Vt03EhwzlPPFqjhkkezk1GVuBLqEgOcL69fes5Oj4NNKSNd-DY7KHTRglRAHfQ2gmKUUFq_MyP4SbWazCh6PZRtmw/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img alt="" data-original-height="806" data-original-width="1721" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggPxbsnjNuNj3NEzZV7LRGDYA4aWLP5wYv4Gsq9NWew5uL6Vt03EhwzlPPFqjhkkezk1GVuBLqEgOcL69fes5Oj4NNKSNd-DY7KHTRglRAHfQ2gmKUUFq_MyP4SbWazCh6PZRtmw/w640-h300/Screen+Shot+2021-02-14+at+2.37.59+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdVKNOI0AzBmnzaqG663JqNxjgQNb4MfZCMGrP6KDiGGCG7cKl9_ak4TcCdItfqsV1xxJZ5bJg2NZaxgsEWMUjs42BNW6itHX9V1BBoH-gn6cCmf4NTW4Wxzroo47TMTV6EvA99Q/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="965" data-original-width="1748" height="354" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdVKNOI0AzBmnzaqG663JqNxjgQNb4MfZCMGrP6KDiGGCG7cKl9_ak4TcCdItfqsV1xxJZ5bJg2NZaxgsEWMUjs42BNW6itHX9V1BBoH-gn6cCmf4NTW4Wxzroo47TMTV6EvA99Q/w640-h354/Screen+Shot+2021-02-14+at+2.38.49+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdzqI-_C4mr5NDmO8IbcvTV4nSHfBh0RXSZCH7DWMl9SC11s9RIxZbZDaB_Tfe3_f3i9br5uH8Vz6m4OmJhMVXTp-pwn7DLOw7fwNWXvvuelzZlc69I5cHKyM5CnWFkmwCcBoozQ/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img alt="" data-original-height="979" data-original-width="1803" height="348" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdzqI-_C4mr5NDmO8IbcvTV4nSHfBh0RXSZCH7DWMl9SC11s9RIxZbZDaB_Tfe3_f3i9br5uH8Vz6m4OmJhMVXTp-pwn7DLOw7fwNWXvvuelzZlc69I5cHKyM5CnWFkmwCcBoozQ/w640-h348/Screen+Shot+2021-02-14+at+2.39.54+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div><div><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDXyJft3rh53JIVbRu_7utq0J3jodNCI3jNq4NsdrGnmym95hCs-IvrNP4cpHFL6g1PO0gHz9NLEEPhbSDe0g-y4q1ebLIOLhzCq_e70kINEYvj0GVrb-LZcILfAzBpKIjpS-ASA/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="953" data-original-width="1742" height="350" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDXyJft3rh53JIVbRu_7utq0J3jodNCI3jNq4NsdrGnmym95hCs-IvrNP4cpHFL6g1PO0gHz9NLEEPhbSDe0g-y4q1ebLIOLhzCq_e70kINEYvj0GVrb-LZcILfAzBpKIjpS-ASA/w640-h350/Screen+Shot+2021-02-14+at+2.43.07+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p><br /></p><p>Always backup your playlist. Things get especially bad when you use Bluetooth for external speakers or wireless headphones. If you were playing music, the sound will break up and stays breaking up. In other words, the Bluetooth service on your Mac doesn't know how to recover from a bad state.</p><p>One thing you can do is to just go to the top right of the menu bar and then right-click the Bluetooth icon to turn Bluetooth off and then back on. But sometimes that icon is just not there.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRxRjgKDb6M9TCgK8HgMHPYy4zXpiXCvVgHyDxeA94lcqDIuGpki_15pg1wdagxLAJ2PRN6_A-B_TMItIRdBgIR-bZpGmXvaU7gvajZJvghCaDY6zkpyGhnBSkohCsZ50VnxPE9A/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="34" data-original-width="479" height="46" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRxRjgKDb6M9TCgK8HgMHPYy4zXpiXCvVgHyDxeA94lcqDIuGpki_15pg1wdagxLAJ2PRN6_A-B_TMItIRdBgIR-bZpGmXvaU7gvajZJvghCaDY6zkpyGhnBSkohCsZ50VnxPE9A/w640-h46/Screen+Shot+2021-02-03+at+10.03.56+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div><br />If so, you can always go to the system preferences screen, find Bluetooth settings, and then turn Bluetooth off there.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC5qdZ9dXw7oHJTUQscAE3XdIj1DaNUU1us2f46RrifDhIr75RfKlz2KyMIfmLL8G16X_WbIu9wXvAyLd8CBctN0tV-VgSUGQbp_KHhgHOwpBmNEzmHPJGz8_XRyP_pCNr7fqWZw/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img alt="" data-original-height="544" data-original-width="780" height="446" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC5qdZ9dXw7oHJTUQscAE3XdIj1DaNUU1us2f46RrifDhIr75RfKlz2KyMIfmLL8G16X_WbIu9wXvAyLd8CBctN0tV-VgSUGQbp_KHhgHOwpBmNEzmHPJGz8_XRyP_pCNr7fqWZw/w640-h446/Screen+Shot+2021-02-03+at+10.05.48+PM.png" width="640" /></a><p></p><p>But one problem you likely will have is that as soon as you turn Bluetooth off, you realize you just disconnected your mouse or your trackpad because most likely they are Bluetooth devices.</p><p>So is there a way to fully restart Bluetooth service (turn if off, and then turn it back on, and then reconnect all your Bluetooth devices) just from your terminal (using the command line)?</p><p><b>You are in luck. The answer is a definite YES! And this method works not only on Mojave but also on other versions of Mac OS as well!!</b></p><p>So here's what you have to do.</p><p>1. First you need to install a utility called blueutil. Run this command to install it: </p><pre style="border-radius: 5px; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: var(--highlight-color); font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant-east-asian: inherit; font-variant-numeric: inherit; line-height: 1.30769; margin-bottom: calc(var(--s-prose-spacing) + 0.4em); margin-top: 0px; max-height: 600px; overflow-wrap: normal; overflow: auto; padding: 12px; vertical-align: baseline; width: auto;"><code style="border-radius: 0px; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: var(--black-800); font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: inherit;">brew install blueutil</code></pre><p>2. Once the utility is installed, you just have to run this command:</p><pre style="border-radius: 5px; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: var(--highlight-color); font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant-east-asian: inherit; font-variant-numeric: inherit; line-height: 1.30769; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; max-height: 600px; overflow-wrap: normal; overflow: auto; padding: 12px; vertical-align: baseline; width: auto;"><code style="border-radius: 0px; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: var(--black-800); font-family: Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, "Lucida Console", "Liberation Mono", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier New", monospace, sans-serif; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: inherit;">blueutil -p 0 && sleep 1 && blueutil -p 1</code></pre><p>If you don't want to remember all the parameters, just put this in a shell script file and call the script each time you want to restart Bluetooth service.</p><p>That's it, it's that simple!! You don't have to use the laptop touchpad to turn on Bluetooth again (because likely you have it closed and connect to multiple external monitors! You don't have to reboot your computer. You just run your script!! You could use Finder and search by file size. But that is just not a very convenient way to find where the large files are located. It also doesn't tell you if a folder is using up a lot of space, even though the files in that folder are not the largest ones.</p><p>The easiest way I've found is to use a free app called:</p><p><b><a href="http://www.derlien.com/downloads/index.html" target="_blank">Disk Inventory X</a></b></p><p>Use the above link to download the installation file (.dmg) to your Mac computer, then double click to open the container and then drag the app file to your Application folder.</p><p>To open the app, you need to open the Application folder in Finder, and then Control+Click the app. Then select open, and you'll see a popup like the one below where you can allow the app to run.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3s2OONhQ70STsQA-SGT4svEsnEPCC8Ad_UeGIeXI-oJZcguFqo4wFyDvggkw7fgENL0QPSb-JmvlFbSA3BVsHaaJDi5008a1wrmXzXO4EJX4Myh0THZojpWMNAGhzE0ExmrH2cw/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="156" data-original-width="474" height="105" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3s2OONhQ70STsQA-SGT4svEsnEPCC8Ad_UeGIeXI-oJZcguFqo4wFyDvggkw7fgENL0QPSb-JmvlFbSA3BVsHaaJDi5008a1wrmXzXO4EJX4Myh0THZojpWMNAGhzE0ExmrH2cw/" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p>Click open to start the app, and then select a hard drive it starts the scan (might take a while), and you'll see a screen that looks like this below.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigMtaInyu8ScUkY4nllOdi3bk5NNBP1CcEiNVPTkImmH8_aQgRr8xHXnvP2n9297JtAUfET4T-D_2O2q6xdB0kOcPSN9lE_HvBjVdR18GP_GAAV2LgrKmDSywcFMHzoW8ZjNzSQQ/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="497" data-original-width="896" height="356" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigMtaInyu8ScUkY4nllOdi3bk5NNBP1CcEiNVPTkImmH8_aQgRr8xHXnvP2n9297JtAUfET4T-D_2O2q6xdB0kOcPSN9lE_HvBjVdR18GP_GAAV2LgrKmDSywcFMHzoW8ZjNzSQQ/w640-h356/image.png" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p>On the left, you have a folder view where you can see which folder is taking up large chunks of your hard drive. You can also drill down to subfolders and see the space usage of each.</p>In the middle, you have what's called a "treemap" where large blocks represent large files. Blocks are color-coded by document type. For example, all movie files are in one color while all application files are in another color. You can click on a block to see where the file is located and how much space it is using. You can also just right click on the block and select "move to trash" to delete the file.<p></p><p>On the right, you have a breakdown of your hard drive usage by file type.</p><p>One important thing to remember is that after you "move to trash," you need to empty your trash to really claim the storage back.</p><p>Hope you find this useful. If you need a place to archive your large files such as movies or music, you can get a <a href="https://amzn.to/2Xxlzwa" target="_blank">4TB external hard drive</a> that's completely powered by your computer from Amazon for about $90.</p><p>Moving on to the next Daily Battle!</p><p><br /></p><h2 style="line-height: 1.5;">Video of the Day:</h2><div style="line-height: 1.5;"><div style="text-align: center;"><b>Ran into an excellent Kung-Fu beer commercial! You can also go into Photos settings (<b>Settings</b>, <b>General</b>, <b>iPhone Storage</b>, and select <b>Photos</b> app), and then click Review Personal Videos. Just find the really big ones that you don't really need and delete them to free up more space.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 1.5;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnFXPZ4liwoPt_2obBtKo1ZL2v4FyuzNY0YmM7wmpKiYLzGqTt5jdC7QgTnsXPOhSrWeKgtgufch6U2gH75TaAMpjkVl8QRg6RruJHZvFgMytB_ywzrXD4RKiN455hMqJz0uarxQ/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="1624" data-original-width="750" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnFXPZ4liwoPt_2obBtKo1ZL2v4FyuzNY0YmM7wmpKiYLzGqTt5jdC7QgTnsXPOhSrWeKgtgufch6U2gH75TaAMpjkVl8QRg6RruJHZvFgMytB_ywzrXD4RKiN455hMqJz0uarxQ/w296-h640/image.png" width="296" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKc681xD-uhNaFBOM1Rl9jPMVgucJWqQ-IobbzyHBfaT3QjwphLJiFVUrSvOf_ec7h8VEN9b4A1uAi0eIDRxTYgThL205eZmOuiJ188FMriKpJ0hmmtJOppvFqLZblKwAPF1_hkQ/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="1624" data-original-width="750" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKc681xD-uhNaFBOM1Rl9jPMVgucJWqQ-IobbzyHBfaT3QjwphLJiFVUrSvOf_ec7h8VEN9b4A1uAi0eIDRxTYgThL205eZmOuiJ188FMriKpJ0hmmtJOppvFqLZblKwAPF1_hkQ/w296-h640/image.png" width="296" /></a></div><br />Hope this can be helpful for iOS users. You select a word in your doc, right-click on it, and then select <b>Synonyms</b> from the menu. Word will then suggest a bunch of words that have similar meanings to you. To be honest, it is also a good way to learn new vocabulary.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiECEUF46SJdXYSc2hghPjQQpn2HFhnH9yh__aIBwKNLwmnDy1P_gSFgaoOpuXU_6_R-2Nycd6EfZbpJ60ootIDnhLRX-UZoEIeUPpWaFLTdvhDAxLoeVxJ3zjUwv-zG9Kcj1y5CA/s882/Screen+Shot+2021-01-16+at+5.33.16+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="882" data-original-width="856" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiECEUF46SJdXYSc2hghPjQQpn2HFhnH9yh__aIBwKNLwmnDy1P_gSFgaoOpuXU_6_R-2Nycd6EfZbpJ60ootIDnhLRX-UZoEIeUPpWaFLTdvhDAxLoeVxJ3zjUwv-zG9Kcj1y5CA/w622-h640/Screen+Shot+2021-01-16+at+5.33.16+PM.png" width="622" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p>And one day, after right-clicking on the word, you find an empty list when you go to the Synonyms submenu. Does it mean there are no synonyms for the word you selected? You start testing other words and soon realize something is wrong and you can no longer use the synonyms feature.</p><p>Well, I had the exact problem. But don't worry, I also found the solution. The problem is because Word somehow got confused on the language of the document. And when it doesn't know or think you are using a different language, it doesn't know what synonyms to get (such as the one shown below).</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxREbckcfb1-c8kgRwxOjyMfxhIyheL8oZWq-OuqXhVjJIA9mQRegxpiTOsALnQUI2hJn6VbMxsm0lqwv3xgrcunu2g1ewGs7Ng6D7r1PSPNxKqEDbincQI8n7ObthMjJrD-PfRw/s985/Screen+Shot+2021-01-16+at+5.33.42+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="941" data-original-width="985" height="612" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxREbckcfb1-c8kgRwxOjyMfxhIyheL8oZWq-OuqXhVjJIA9mQRegxpiTOsALnQUI2hJn6VbMxsm0lqwv3xgrcunu2g1ewGs7Ng6D7r1PSPNxKqEDbincQI8n7ObthMjJrD-PfRw/w640-h612/Screen+Shot+2021-01-16+at+5.33.42+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>To fix this problem, use <b>CTRL+A</b> to select the entire document, then go to <b>Review</b> on your menu, and then click the <b>Language</b> button on your tool ribbon. Make sure you select <b>English</b> and then click OK. Now if you try the Synonyms submenu again, everything is back to normal.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgADO-lVrQerfVjVLZs9AgxLnHCoA4zTQL4H1zFIA0lNdBhxm4baMCEM-S3Z82fT7uZH0SxBjcN9wD8RGmImU4LntidkhA0ta6XjT_oukLcZ8p7tuUukAlRt9hMf_L8rzXtNVKK8A/s848/Screen+Shot+2021-01-16+at+5.34.14+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="848" data-original-width="662" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgADO-lVrQerfVjVLZs9AgxLnHCoA4zTQL4H1zFIA0lNdBhxm4baMCEM-S3Z82fT7uZH0SxBjcN9wD8RGmImU4LntidkhA0ta6XjT_oukLcZ8p7tuUukAlRt9hMf_L8rzXtNVKK8A/w500-h640/Screen+Shot+2021-01-16+at+5.34.14+PM.png" width="500" /></a></div><br /><p>Hope this helps those that also ran into this problem. Start a scan on the folder or drive you want to clean, and it shows you where your large files are located with a very intuitive block map interface. You can right-click on it and delete it directly if you are sure.</p><div style="line-height: 1.5;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXfqVFyVlIunCrhAnR_VAjGO79TA5hGPBg8RQa7BCGB_N3sYpr8FBwKDvfUq3349v1N29lgC0nAE496eLb3SzpzUPq4LGcKpsO3XIeChr93iOhqPnpJ9s8s8N3R_qKof-EMI2HgQ/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="473" data-original-width="640" height="474" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXfqVFyVlIunCrhAnR_VAjGO79TA5hGPBg8RQa7BCGB_N3sYpr8FBwKDvfUq3349v1N29lgC0nAE496eLb3SzpzUPq4LGcKpsO3XIeChr93iOhqPnpJ9s8s8N3R_qKof-EMI2HgQ/w640-h474/image.png" width="640" /></a></div><br />Once you start the scan, you'll actually realize that a lot of your junk files are Windows updates. Generally speaking, if it is just an image or installation files (with the msi extension), then you should be okay to delete them. However, if you are not sure, don't do it.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 1.5;">Here's a short tutorial video showing you how the program works:</div><div style="line-height: 1.5;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5HwVYB0oy8A" width="640" youtube-src-id="5HwVYB0oy8A"></iframe></div><br /><div style="line-height: 1.5;">Hope you find this tool helpful and also feel in total control of your files on your Windows machine!
